Vivacity News

Abbey Grange Concert

We will be singing for the residents of Abbey Grange Nursing home on Monday 19th July. This is our last event of the season.

Congratulations to Neil Pigott and Kate van Der Riet on the safe arrival of their babies. We wish Laura Coles all the best for her new start in London - we'll miss you! Julie Dipple our pianist is getting married this month- we wish her years of happiness ahead.
We continue to welcome new members in recent weeks. There will be no rehearsals over the summer holiday. We meet back in the first week of September to prepare for an Autumn Concert, a wedding and Christmas events.

New Conductors

A big thank you to Kate van Der Riet for all her great work in conducting us. Kate's baby is due very soon.

We are grateful to other choir members for coming forward and being willing to conduct (some for the first time!). In coming weeks we will be led by Chris, Hilary, Charlotte, Becky, Fiona, Lizzie, and Dave as different people will lead us for different songs. This will give us the opportunity to grow new talent!

Welcome to those who have joined us in recent weeks. There is no rehearsal on Monday 31st May for bank holiday.

Saturday's concert - Vivacity's best yet!

Congratulations to the choir on our best performance yet. We had a great evening and appreciated the talent and support of the Sheffield music academy and the people from St John's church who helped host the event.

You can see some video clips on our Youtube channel

There is no choir on Monday 10th May - we are going out for a meal to celebrate!
Choir restarts next week and we'll be working on Agnus Dei, Rhythm of Life, Mister Sandman and Something inside so strong

Choir news - March 2010

Vivacity has grown dramatically since Christmas. We have nearly 40 members and are very pleased to have a good number of tenors and basses now. We have moved to a new venue at Hillsborough Baptist Church Hall. This has provided much needed space for growth and enables us to split into smaller groups in our respective parts for part of the evening. This has really helped us to learn new music more quickly.

Thanks to Becky Brereton our social secretary for getting us organised to go out and support David Woods in his role in Fiddler on the Roof at the Lyceum. Maybe Dave will be able to teach us a thing or two about about choreography!
Our musical director, Kate Van der Riet will soon be going on maternity leave. We are in the process of training up others to have a go at conducting and leading. For each section of the choir there are now leaders - Mari Thorman (Sopranos), Fiona Bronsdon (Altos), Chris Houghton (Tenors) and Dave Moore (Basses). Charlotte and Hilary have agreed to help out as needed and provide some coaching in conducting.
Will Wernham continues to do a great job as treasurer and is getting us organised with a bank account and membership subscriptions can now be paid by standing order (at a discounted rate!)
We continue to welcome new members week by week and aim to progress in our musical ability and be accessible to all, regardless of previous experience.

Next Event, Sacred Music Concert, Saturday 8th May, St John's Owlerton

Vivacity has been invited along as a guest choir at a Sheffield Music Academy concert. The programme includes Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, music from Handel's Messiah, Cantique de Jean Racine, Panis Angelicus and a number of solo items.

All welcome, tickets available on the door, proceeds to local charities.
